About Ahilyabai Holkar

Ahilyabai Holkar (1725-1795) was a capable ruler, administrator, and visionary who is considered a role model for many. She was known for her wisdom, courage, and administrative skills. She moved the capital of the kingdom to Maheshwar, and repealed a law that allowed the state to take property from childless widows.

Ahilyabai's character

Ahilyabai was known for being compassionate and empathetic towards her subjects, but also for being tough and firm when it came to national security and interest. She was also known for seeking reconciliation with dissenting officials before resorting to execution.
